Marty Decker

Marty Decker grew up in the frontier town of Fairbanks, Alaska.

As a teenager in the late 1960’s he gained wilderness skills, fish finding abilities and river navigation basics from Alaska pioneer prospector Al Withrow. Marty is at home in the Alaska bush and enjoys sharing the beauty of Alaska and his enthusiasm for adventure with our guests.

Marty’s wilderness savvy has been developed through many years of backcountry experience as a fly fisherman, mountaineer, boat driver, gold prospector, ski racing coach, adaptive outdoor recreation specialist and wilderness guide. He began his professional river guiding career on the Kanektok River in 1982. After many years of conducting float trips for reputable Alaska fly fishing outfitters and lodges, Marty established Frontier River Guides, intending to offer the finest wilderness Alaska fly fishing float trips available. His culinary skills and light hearted nature set the tone for Frontier River Guides’ wilderness Alaska fly fishing trips.
